Management Programmes - Graduate Development - World of Business

Induction into the World of Business

Methodology and Structure

The programme runs over five days and the detailed design will be developed in conjunction with the HRD team. There is the opportunity for various client personnel to deliver input sessions and exercises to run as part of the programme. Learning Dynamics will work with the team to ensure a close fit between organisational inputs and those of the Learning Dynamics team.

Our business simulations will form the "backbone" of the programme with input sessions and exercises between rounds of the simulation. Rounds of the simulation will take 45 minutes to one and a quarter hours. Processing of decisions and results takes approximately 45 minutes. Participants will always be occupied during the processing by either inputs or exercises.

There will be opportunities for teams to show their creativity as well as their analytical skills.

The programme will build towards a final dinner and prize-giving event.

The main objectives of the programme are:

Develop Integrated Teams:

  • Introduce the graduate trainees to the business world in a way that will create motivation, excitement and sense of comradeship.
  • Allow individuals to explore their personal style and motivation and how these may impact on others.
  • Explore how they can manage difficult situations with people more experienced than them.
  • Learn how to make decisions by consensus by reasoned and analytical argument

Develop Financial Knowledge and Application to Business Performance

  • Enable trainees to understand the importance of financial information in delivering business objectives.
  • Identify and explain the fundamental accounting concepts, bases and policies.
  • Examine the working capital cycle and the ability of managers to impact on working capital costs.
  • Develop an understanding of basic debits and credits.
  • Be able to analyse profit & loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow in the context of a simulated business and to draw from these implications for the performance of the business and the company's longer-term financial position.

Develop Business and Commercial Awareness

  • Explore the broader business environment in which their organisation operates and how this impacts on strategy and operations.
  • Understand the impact of a market/customer- driven business.
  • Recognize that competitive advantage is driven by correct reading of the business environment as well as correct positioning of products and services in regard to competitive activity.
  • Be aware of the impact of managing the supply chain effectively and how this may be achieved.
  • Understand that innovation and creativity are important to the long-term success of any business.
  • Explore non-financial measures of performance
