ACADEMIC SIMULATIONS PORTFOLIO

Our experience:

Learning Dynamics is a leading provider of business simulations for higher education - for extracurricular events and curricular course work.

Extracurricular Events:

Over the past 10 years Learning Dynamics has designed and facilitated simulation-centred events for thousands of students – over one day, a weekend, or a number of weeks or months - as part of:

  • University enterprise days
  • Student employability skill development
  • Open business competitions

Events designed around a business simulation are exciting, challenging, engaging – and enable taught theory to be put into practice in the context of realistic simulations in which participants have to take a range of decisions that affect the performance of the company.

Innovative events that enhance employability and widen career choices:

Learning Dynamics designs and delivers innovative events based on business simulations where students get hands-on experience in an industry or organisation, from custom events through to open competitions, such as the Universities Business Challenge Worldwide. These help students turn theory into practice, develop team-working skills, enhance employability skills and better understand career choices.

Universities Business Challenge Worldwide - the world's premier undergraduate competition:

Learning Dynamics are the developers and deliverers of the Universities Business Challenge Worldwide – the leading business competition for undergraduates worldwide - which helps develop employability skills and career choices. More than 15,000 students have participated over the past 10 years. We work closely with lecturers on this event. In the UK, at the IBM UBC Grand Final recently, lecturers were there in numbers to support their teams.

Simulations for inclusion in Course Work:

These simulations are designed as "companion" simulations to accompany popular textbooks are are developed in co-operation with leading higher education textbook publishers.

Choice of delivery:

Our simulations are designed to offer a choice of delivery and access to suit the course criteria and learning objectives - on-line access with instructor facilitation or class room access with joint instructor / Learning Dynamics facilitation.

On-line access - instructor facilitated:

Many of our simulations are available to instructors and students via on-line access, so students' decisions are submitted in their own time and processed automatically and results are viewed on-line. Instructor resources are available on-line, with full facilitation guides.

Here is an indication of the resources included in our simulations:

  • Instructor briefing
  • Introduction and participant briefing
  • Participant’s manual
  • Scenarios
  • FAQs
  • Decision form / submission explanation
  • Suggested appropriate exercises between decision periods
  • Helpline
  • Decisions are processed automatically on-line
  • Results are viewable on-line

Class room access - joint facilitation:

Simulations can be held as a curricular event over one day or a weekend and jointly facilitated by the instructor team and LD.

  • On the day, the Learning Dynamics team member can present and facilitate the event together with the instructor team
  • In our experience, participants gain most learning and motivation through working in teams of up to five people
  • Live events generate great energy and excitement
